Study in Canada by applying for a student permit with Form IMM 1294, Application For Study Permit Made Outside of Canada.

About Study Permit Form IMM 1294

Form IMM 1294 is used by individuals who want to apply for a study permit. Approved study permits may be limited to study at a certain school, or certain course of study.

In addition to applying for a study permit on Form IMM 1294, applicants outside of Canada must generally also apply for a Temporary Resident Visa. Exceptions to this requirement apply to applicants from visa-exempt countries. Please visit the IRCC (formerly known as CIC) site at http://www.cic.gc.ca/ for more information on exemptions from the visa requirement.

Who Should Apply for a Study Permit?

Specifically:

  • Minor children attending pre-school, primary or secondary levels;
  • Family members or private staff accompanying a foreign representative of the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Canada, and
  • Members of the armed forces of a country designated for the purposes of the Visiting Forces Act.
